Neal Cassady Birthday Bash

On Friday February 7th 2020 the David Amram Quartet will headline the annual Bash which also features poetry and reminiscences celebrating the life of Neal Cassady, starting at 8:00pm, upstairs at the Mercury Café at 2199 California Street in Denver. In addition, a scale model maquette of a life size sculpture of Neal and Jack Kerouac, by noted bronze artist Sutton Betti, will be on display. This monument is proposed for placement at Sonny Lawson Field at 23rd and California.  The location figures prominently in Kerouac’s best-selling book “On the Road.”

And, coinciding with the 11th Annual Bash, the Denver Public Library will host an exhibit at the Central Branch located at 10 W. 14th Ave. Pky. entitled, “Neal Cassady’s Denver.” The exhibit featuring first editions and other memorabilia relating to Cassady’s Denver years will run from January 10th to March 31st.
