11th Annual Bash – Feb. 7, 2020


* David Amram Quartet headlined 11th Annual Event

On Friday February 7th 2020 the David Amram Quartet headlined the annual Bash which also featured poetry and reminiscences celebrating the life of Neal Cassady, which started at 8:00pm, upstairs at the Mercury Café at 2199 California Street in Denver. Tickets were available at the door or in advance from BrownPaperTickets.com.

In addition, a drawing of a life size sculpture of Neal and Jack Kerouac, by noted bronze artist Sutton Betti, was on display. This monument is proposed for placement at Sonny Lawson Field at 23rd and California.  The location figures prominently in Kerouac’s best-selling book “On the Road.” To fund the project, please visit IndieGogo here.

Also, John Hayden led a walking tour of Neal’s Denver haunts starting at the Mercury Café at 3pm on Friday February 7th prior to the Bash.

And, coinciding with the 11th Annual Bash, the Denver Public Library hosts an exhibit at the Central Branch located at 10 W. 14th Ave. Pky. entitled, “Neal Cassady’s Denver.” The exhibit featuring first editions and other memorabilia relating to Cassady’s Denver years will run from January 10th to March 31st.
